Research Interest: My main research interests are in the field of diabetic vascular dysfunction. We address the molecular mechanisms involved in the functional and phenotypic changes that occur in blood vessels in pre-diabetes and diabetes. Changes in mechanisms like calcium sensitization and actin cytoskeleton reorganization leading to dysfunctional myogenic and agonist-induced contractility in animal models of diabetes are addressed. The potential disease modifying role of anti diabetic medications and the underlying mechanisms are also addressed. In addition, our research group looks into gross hemodynamic changes involving modifications of central cardiovascular mechanisms in these disease models.
