comet assay responses to food mutagens in human cells. She worked on
male-mediated F1 effects in mice exposed to X-rays or chemicals or to a
combination of both agents, estimated mutagenic effects induced in somatic and
germ cells of laboratory mice (in vivo tests) after combined action of X-rays
and chemicals occurring in the environment. She studied the antioxidants
properties of flavonoid and catalase on the DNA damage induced in human sperm
by thyroid hormone and noradrenaline. She was involved in biomonitoring studies
of DNA damage measured by comet assay in leucocytes of blood donors and in
sperm of pregnant women’s partners. Recently, she worked on the effects of
phthalates on the male germ cells and the development of the offspring of males
treated before mating. Moreover, she studied the effect of subchronic exposure
to low doses of X-rays and endocrine disruptors on the quantity and quality of
spermatozoa as well as the effects on the pre- and postnatal surviving and
development of the offspring of exposed males. She studied the DNA damage in
leucocytes of nuclear medicine workers. Presently, she studies the
radioprotective effect of resveratrol and lycopene against the damage induced
by irradiation in germ and somatic cells of mice.

Dr Rafał Skowronek (MD) is physician working as forensic medical examiner/forensic pathologist in Chair and Department of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Toxicology, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. His Ph.D. Thesis is based on the studies on mechanism regulating expression of hormone-dependent cytochromes P450 in the rat liver under conditions of the pituitary desensitization caused by gonadoliberin analogs. Scientifically and professionally, he is also interested in drugs of abuse, including new psychoactive substances (NPS), poisonings with medicines, narcotics and toxic gases and problem of drug interactions. He has numerous publications in prestigious journals and various presentations in both national and international conferences. Dr Leong Yin-Hui is a researcher in National
Poison Centre of Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). She obtained her
PhD in Food Safety in 2011 from USM. She had served as a post-doctoral fellow
in USM for 3 years and has more than 3 years of working experiences in pharmaceutical,
cosmetic and food industries.
Dr Leong’s research interests have been
focused on the public health, food safety, food analysis and new drug compounds
or contaminants discovery in clinical, environmental and food matrices.
Currently, she is actively involves in the research of persistent organic
pollutants (POPs), for example dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in human breast
milks, food and environmental samples; investigation of the efficacy of various
plant extracts in antifungal and aflatoxins inhibition properties and other
researches related to food and nutritional security. The outcomes of the
